Story:

CARING TEACHER

Long ago, there was a teacher who was having his school at home. There were twenty children living with the teacher and his wife. They looked after the children very well. The children also used to help them happily. They would fetch water and go to the forest to bring fire wood, fruits and flowers.

One day one of the students found one of his things missing and reported to the teacher. The teacher assured him that he would look into the matter. Later on, one by one, the other students began to complain that someone was stealing their belongings and they even mentioned the name of the boy whom they suspected. The teacher promised to talk to the concerned child. But the problem persisted and the thefts continued.

The students felt their teacher was ignoring their complaints. Hence the next day, all the children except the culprit decided to leave the home-school. They told the teacher that even though they loved and respected him because of the thefts they were forced to leave the school.

On hearing this, the teacher looked at his pupils and said, “yes, my children, you are all good and you do not require my help anymore.” He looked at the culprit and said, “you, my son, require my help to improve your character. So you can stay with me. Let the others go.”

Upon hearing these loving words of his teacher the culprit was ashamed and realized his mistake and admitted them and fell at the feet of the teacher, crying bitterly, “Forgive me for my mistakes. I have the weakness of stealing and the very first day I started you warned me and asked me to stop stealing. But I did not listen to you. You did not forsake me for that, but allowed me to be with you, in spite of all the complaints you received from other students. I assure you that from this moment onwards I will stop stealing and lead a good life. I also beg my fellow students to forgive me. I promise to return all things I have stolen from all of you.”

The teacher shed tears of Joy and all the other pupils realized the true love of the teacher and also his patience to teach a lifetime lesson to the boy, who was transformed. They begged for forgiveness and fell at the feet of their loving teacher.
